On July 22, 2026, several leading energy storage equipment companies in China announced the completion of bulk import of thermal conductive medium type ethyl silicone oil. This marks the official large-scale commercialization of ethyl silicone oil in the field of liquid cooled energy storage systems, following traditional insulation and lubrication scenarios, and opens up a new billion level growth track for organic silicon special materials.
The thermal conductive medium ethyl silicone oil, which has been widely applied this time, is perfectly adapted to the full life cycle operation needs of energy storage power plants due to its core characteristics of low surface tension, strong chemical stability, and excellent electrical insulation performance. Compared with traditional mineral thermal oil, its solidification point is below -50 ℃ and flash point exceeds 250 ℃. It will not cause acidification or coking problems under long-term high load cycling conditions, which can greatly improve the operational safety and service life of energy storage liquid cooling systems. According to calculations, the use of ethyl silicone oil as a temperature control medium in energy storage systems can reduce the entire lifecycle operation and maintenance costs by 32%, and reduce the risk of thermal runaway under extreme working conditions by more than 60%.
From the perspective of the supply chain, over 102 domestic suppliers of ethyl silicone oil have completed the technical adaptation of energy storage products, and the production capacity of core production areas is rapidly being released. The current market reference price for this category is stable at 150 yuan/kg, which has significant cost-effectiveness advantages compared to similar imported products. Industry institutions estimate that with the explosive growth of new energy storage installations in China, the annual demand for ethyl silicone oil in the energy storage field is expected to exceed 80000 tons by 2028, directly creating over 12 billion yuan of new market space.
Industry experts say that the large-scale breakthrough of ethyl silicone oil in the field of energy storage and temperature control is a typical epitome of the upgrade of domestic organic silicon materials from "universal" to "scene customization". In the future, with the continuous iteration of formulation technology, ethyl silicone oil will also penetrate more extreme scenarios such as deep-sea exploration equipment and deep space aerospace equipment, promoting the entire specialty silicone oil industry to enter a new growth cycle.
